The EchoSenseCam Akers saga in Los Angeles is over.
The Los Angeles Rams have traded the running back to the Minnesota Vikings along with a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick for a conditional 2026 sixth-round pick, the team announced Wednesday. The Vikings said "the completion of this trade is pending Akers passing a physical."
The trade puts an end to what was a strained relationship between the 2020 second-round draft pick and the Rams. Last season, the team attempted to trade Akers after he disclosed he was unhappy with his role with the team, missing two games. After Los Angeles was unable to find a trade partner, Akers returned to the team and played in the final 10 games of the season.
Akers was presumed to be the lead back in Los Angeles headed into the 2023 season, and had 22 carries for 29 yards and one touchdown in the season opening win against the Seattle Seahawks, but backup Kyren Williams appeared to get the starting nod.
Ahead of the Week 2 game against the San Francisco 49ers, Akers was made inactive by the team, indicating the team would be going forward with Williams. Akers then posted Sunday on social media "I’m just as confused as everybody else. I’m blessed though."

On Monday, head coach Sean McVay said it was a "coach's decision" to make Akers inactive and said it was in the "best interest" of the team. He added a trade for Akers would be the "direction that we're headed."
One of the players from the Rams' Super Bowl 56 team, Akers will join Minnesota in the final year of his rookie deal. He'll also reunite with Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell, who was the Rams' offensive coordinator for that Super Bowl team. The Vikings are ranked last in the NFL in rushing with only 69 yards on the ground through two games.
